Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is set to continue captivating audiences with its beloved Aurora Teagarden Mysteries, albeit without the longtime star Candace Cameron Bure. The network has given the green light to the prequel installment, titled Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New, which is scheduled to premiere later this year.
Skyler Samuels (known for her roles in The Gabby Petito Story and The Gifted) will step into the lead role as a young Aurora, while Evan Roderick (seen in A Tale of Two Christmases and Autumn in the City) will portray the young Arthur. Marilu Henner (recognized for her appearances in A Kismet Christmas and Evening Shade) will reprise her role as Aida Teagarden.
“Our dedicated viewers have been eagerly anticipating more adventures with Aurora and her friends. What better way to deliver than by taking them back to the time when our young, aspiring detective was just beginning to find her footing?” shared Emily Merlin, the Development Manager of Programming at Hallmark Media. “The Aurora Teagarden franchise holds a special place in the hearts of fans, and we are thrilled to present this new chapter to our viewers.”
Set in Aurora Teagarden’s post-college days, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New takes place when she returns to her hometown of Lawrenceton. As her mother Aida (played by Henner) strives to establish her newfound real estate business, Aurora finds employment as a teacher’s assistant in a crime fiction class while also working nights as a waitress at the local diner. At the diner, she shares her passion for researching true crime with her friend Sally and police officer Arthur (portrayed by Roderick).
When Sally’s fiancé fails to appear at their wedding rehearsal, Aurora, acting as the Maid of Honor, enlists Arthur’s help to search for him. Their investigation takes an unexpected turn when they stumble upon a lifeless body. Initially presumed to be Sally’s missing groom, it soon becomes apparent that the deceased individual is someone else entirely, leading Sally’s fiancé to become the prime suspect.
Candace Cameron Bure began her role in the Aurora Teagarden films back in 2015, with her most recent installment, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Haunted by Murder, airing in February of the previous year. Bure subsequently announced her deal with GAC Media in April of the same year.
Skyler Samuels stars as a young Aurora in “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New,” premiering Friday, June 9, on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
